An elderly man is in Whangarei Hospital with a serious head wound after he was hit with a shovel during an attack in house in Dargaville, Northland.
The injuries to the 71-year-old man were not life-threatening and police said they were talking to another man who gave himself up to police at the house.
Armed police were called to the house yesterday afternoon.
Detective Andy Bailey from Dargaville police said they were still trying to establish exactly what happened during the attack.
"He is being treated in Whangarei Hospital. He has got a large laceration to his head," he said.
