Evacuation at Auckland Airport after sprinkler fault

A fault in the sprinkler system led to the evacuation of the Auckland Airport's domestic terminal early this morning.

Members of the public and staff were asked to leave the building briefly after a fire alarm went off shortly before 9am.

An airport spokesman said a fault in the sprinkler system had triggered a false alarm.

People were allowed back into the terminal not long afterwards.

Fire service emergency workers based at the airport were on hand but not needed, a northern fire communications spokesman confirmed.
