Gisborne rocked by 4.5 magnitude earthquake

Gisborne has been rocked by a 4.8 magnitude earthquake this afternoon.

GeoNet said the quake struck 5km southeast of Gisborne at a depth of 48km at 12.02pm today.

Gisborne Police and the Fire Service had not received any call outs for damage related to the earthquake.

GeoNet later revised the quake's strength to a slightly lower magnitude 4.5.

It said the "moderate" quake struck 10km northwest of Gisborne at a depth of 20km.

More than 70 people had reported feeling the quake, with most describing it as light or weak in intensit
