Kids in hospital after slide collapses

Five children have been taken to hospital after a massive inflatable slide collapsed at a Wairarapa A&P show.

The collapse occurred on the Mammoth Slide at the Masterton Trust House A & P Show at the Solway Showgrounds in Masterton, around 1pm, site manager Ally O'Neill said.

Five children were receiving medical care as a result, she said.

"It's a big, blow-up slide that goes quite high in the air. Kids go up there and slide down.''

The children were all in a stable condition, a Wairarapa Hospital spokeswoman said.

Ms O'Neill said the slide was immediately closed to the public after the accident.

"We are very concerned about the children and until the investigation has been completed we are unable to comment further."
Police and WorkSafe New Zealand were investigating.
