The West Coast armed offenders squad was called to Westport yesterday when a 37-year-old man allegedly threatened to kill a woman.
Police were called when the man made threats to kill a woman, and indicated to another man that he was in a position to harm him.
The man was known to police and he was believed to have access to firearms.
The incident ended at 3pm, when the man was arrested at his rural property.
He was taken into custody and was due to appear in Greymouth District Court today charged with threatening to kill.
