A man will appear in court today charged with the murder of a Whangamata man who was found dead earlier this month.
Ivan Kapluggin, 76, a British national, was found dead at a house on Achilles Ave in Whangamata on February 3.
Today Detective Inspector Karl Thornton said an arrest was made in Whangamata yesterday in relation to the murder of Mr Kapluggin.
"As a result of yesterday's arrest a 61-year-old Whangamata man will appear in the Hamilton District Court today charged with Mr Kapluggin's murder,' he said.
"Officers have spoken to Mr Kapluggin's family and expressed our condolences for their loss. The family have expressed their gratitude to our staff for being able to hold someone to account and have requested their privacy be respected."
Mr Thornton thanked those members of the public who assisted police throughout their investigation.
