A Wellington school is closed today after it was badly damaged by a suspicious fire last night.
Emergency services were contacted about the fire at Paparangi School in Newlands at about 3am.
Police said the administration block had been badly damaged.
The cause of the fire was yet to be determined but it was being treated as suspicious.
Principal Susan Blyther said the school would be closed for the day and any parents who were able to keep their children at home were requested to do so.
The school had no electricity or administrative facilities but some staff would be available to supervise children who weren't able to stay at home.
