Police have confirmed that shots were fired at a car parked at a house in Te Atatu this afternoon.
Detective Senior Sergeant Ash Matthews of Waitakere Police said police were called to the house in Springbank Lane at 2.45pm.
"We have been called in relation to shots that have been heard," he said.
"Someone has turned up and taken some pot shots at a vehicle at the address.
"No one has been injured. The circumstances behind it are not yet clear."
He said the house was empty at the time. It is now roped off and police are still looking for the person who fired the shots.
A West Auckland school is in lock down after reports of gun shots heard in the area.
A spokeswoman for Rutherford Primary School has confirmed that students and staff are in "casual lockdown" after an alert came through shortly after 3pm. She said staff are being extremely cautious.
Senior Sergeant Eugene Pickett confirmed officers were in attendance at residential address in Te Atatu.
"Gunshots were reportedly heard and police are currently at the scene and making inquiries.
"There are no longer any cordons in place and no one appears to be injured."
