Bay of Plenty has been rocked by a shallow 4.2 magnitude earthquake.
The quake struck at a depth of 2km, 40km northwest of Whakatane at 11.50am, GNS Science reported.
It was felt widely in the Bay of Plenty region but there were no reports of injury or damage.
