A suspicious package which led to the evacuation of the domestic terminal at Auckland has been declared safe and the airport has been reopened.
The terminal was evacuated for more than an hour today when the package was found on a counter after it became separated from the passenger who had brought it into New Zealand, said police.
Ironically, the package was believed to contain devices used to train people in how to deal with explosives.
"They were electronic explosive training devices," said Sergeant Earl Cole from the airport police.
He said the devices were used to train people to deal with explosives and were being taken to Christchurch.
It was believed they were going to Christchurch for Cubic Defence New Zealand, a company which provides devices to train the military and the police in how to deal with explosives.
Mr Cole said the evacuation went without a hitch and several flights were delayed while the package was investigated.
