Teen drowns in Waikato river

The body of a teenager is being recovered from the Waikato River in Taupo.

The teen was believed to have drowned after he was swept away by the river this afternoon, the New Zealand Herald reported.

A police spokesperson said a body had been found and the Wellington dive squad was on its way to the scene.

The teenager had been swimming with a group of 11 others when he got into difficulty in the water near Cherry Island.
