What was expected to be a quiet Easter egg hunt became an "overwhelming" affair as children  seemingly smelled Glenfalloch’s hidden chocolates a mile off.

Yesterday, the woodland gardens were littered with egg-shaped markers stuck to popsicle sticks.

More than 160 children scampered about with maps trying to find them and trade them in for chocolate treats.

The event was in its second year and this time had been organised by Glenfalloch restaurant staff.

Co-organiser Mel Hartmann said the number of children was quite "overwhelming".

"It was completely unexpected. We probably had a third of the people last year."

Staff had to buy back-up chocolate so every child could have some, she said.

"But it was good. In the end it’s all about the kids."

Ms Hartmann did not know why so many people were attracted to the event, but the fact it was free must have been a big drawcard, she said.
