Kmart volunteer Santa Raph Gawn releases a Lilo from Lilo & Stitch stuffed toy at the launch of the Kmart Wishing Tree yesterday.

Kmart duty manager Melissa Gawn said the department store supported The Salvation Army with gifts each year.

People could buy a gift and leave them for families in need during Christmas.

She said it was big in Australia and New Zealand.

Last year, Kmart supported about 145,000 families. The gifts range from those for babies all the way to teenagers.
