The Central Otago Heritage Trust was one successful funding recipient in the Central Otago District Council’s 10-year plan.
In a submission to the plan, the trust requested $40,000 a year to employ a part-time heritage co-ordinator.
At a meeting on Thursday the council resolved to provide the grant for three years, with an annual review to look at performance against the trust’s 2018 strategy and plan.
Trust chairman Graye Shattky said he was "extremely pleased".
"The council recognised the need ... It recognised that we provide the goods by way of strategy and heritage that has brought the community together."
Mr Shattky said the co-ordinator would help the trust plan for projects such as a heritage establishing plan for an oral history group and website for archiving electronic copies of documents, photographs and film related to Central Otago’s history.
The co-ordinator would also help the trust apply to funding bodies.
The trust would consider how to advertise for a co-ordinator in the next few months, Mr Shattky said.
Accepted grants
Other accepted grants in the CODC’s 2018-28 plan:
• $10,000 a year for Maniototo Curling International for three years, as long as international events continue
• $2500 a year to Life Education Trust for three years
• $5000 a year to Bannockburn Community Centre Management Committee from Cromwell Community Board
• $5000 for mowing grass at Cromwell Bike Park from Cromwell Community Board
• $1000 for Ophir Pool from Vincent Community Board
• $25,000 for removal of dangerous trees in St Bathans cemetery
• $2552 increase of Netball Association annual grant from Vincent Community Board
• $1250 increase of Galloway Hall annual grant from Vincent Community Board
