A fire at an Alexandra bank this evening has been extinguished.

A Fire and Emergency spokesman said at 6.34pm it received a call about a fire on the roof of a Tarbert St property.

Two appliances from Alexandra attended and did not discover anything initially, but found a fire inside the building.

Breathing apparatus was worn to fight the fire alongside a thermal imaging camera to help with finding hotspots.

A third appliance was also called to assist crews.

The fire had since been extinguished.
