Plans are afoot to bring Europe’s largest winter festival, Snowboxx, to the Cardrona Alpine Resort this winter.

Snowboxx promoter Rob Tominey said earlier this week it would recreate the successful European event which takes place annually in Avoriaz, France (pictured).

However, this is not the first attempt to stage it.

Plans to run the event at NZSki’s Coronet Peak and Remarkables skifields last winter were scrapped because of what was described as ‘‘scheduling conflicts’’.

Mr Tominey said the New Zealand edition would bring an ‘‘avalanche of the hottest international electronic music artists’’.

But Queenstown skifield operator NZSki has voiced doubts over the plan.

NZSki chief executive Paul Anderson did not rule out the same thing happening this winter.

‘‘I’m not convinced that that will actually go ahead at Cardrona.

‘‘Fantastic if it does; it would be great for them to pull it off.’’

Because Snowboxx ‘‘couldn’t make it work on its business model’’ last winter, NZSki had run its own events.

Mr Anderson said it was ‘‘interesting’’ Snowboxx had not named any artists for the Cardrona event.
