Night ‘n Day owner Murray Devereux wished he had a cleaning crew to call on early yesterday, after a car ploughed through the front door of his Octagon store.
Alas, he did not have the option and the store was in a hell of a mess, he said.
So he was delighted when members of the public came to his aid to help with the clean-up at 2am.
"It’s unusual.
Mr Devereux said the building itself was undamaged, but the remains of the glass door were scattered across much of the store.
He said the staff got a big fright when the car hit the building, and he was thankful no-one was injured.
A police spokeswoman said a man was taken into custody after the vehicle he was driving smashed into the Princes St entrance about 1.45am.
Inquiries were ongoing into the circumstances, she said.
