The Twin Bridge Banger sausages were made this week by On Farm Meats, using a special secret recipe to capture the character of the Kurow-Hakataramea area.
Reflecting Canterbury colours to the north of the bridge and Kurow rugby colours to the south, they were wrapped in a red casing.
Between 70kg and 80kg were made - more than 1000 sausages.
They will be sold at the opening, organised by the New Zealand Transport Agency, of the second bridge on State Highway 82 across the river's northern branch.
All proceeds will go to Whalan Lodge, the Kurow community-owned and operated rest-home.
All sausage maker and second-generation butcher Shane Buchan would reveal about the ingredients was they included merino and venison meat.
''There will be two types of sausage to reflect that there are two bridges.''
The butcher's sausages are a big seller in the Waitaki Valley.
While he was a bit worried that people might think they were saveloys because of the red casing, he was still confident they would be a hit.
The NZ Transport Agency's highway manager Colin Knaggs said the sausages would sell for $2 each.
''A large crowd was expected at the opening, ''the community having been involved in planning the event ''which celebrates a significant milestone'', he said.
The completion of the two replacement bridges secured the road link for the Kurow and Hakataramea communities which had existed for more than 133 years.
The Transport Agency has built two new two-lane bridges at a cost of $20.1 million to replace two single-lane timber bridges, which were opened in 1881.
The bridge will be opened at 12.30pm tomorrow by Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean.
