There was a touch of rugby nostalgia at the North East Valley club at the weekend.
The club purchased 105 bright blue seats from the old grandstand at Carisbrook and they were placed around the edge of the two greens.
The idea came from club members Terry and Jim Scott and Pete Thompson, who were all keen Otago rugby supporters.
''When the rotary club were selling the seats last year, we purchased 105 at a cost of $2000,'' invitation singles committee spokesman Neill Williams said.
The seat supports were modified to suit the requirements of the bowling club by DF Transales Engineering.
The seats have been in place for only three weeks and the tournament is the first major event at which they have been used.
Williams used to have a permanent seat in section N at the Carisbrook grandstand for rugby matches.
''They are just as comfortable watching bowls as they were when I sat in them at Carisbrook,'' he said.
''The beauty of the Carisbrook seats is that they fold up so they don't get wet after rain.''
Another addition to the club grounds is six new flag poles to display the club and sponsors' flags during major events.
