Queenstown were the best of the southern clubs at the tournament, reaching the final four before being pipped 16-13 by a Nelson team led by New Zealand greats Val Smith and Jo Edwards.

Nelson, including Kay Hammond and Di Holland, came from 8-4 down to beat Elmwood Park 13-10 in the final.
