The South Island inter-association masters badminton championships took place over the weekend.

It was hosted by Badminton Southland in their 10-court stadium at Surrey Park with 14 teams and 130 players.

People came from all over the South Island with players from Nelson, Canterbury, South Canterbury, Otago and Southland.

Nelson took home division one, Canterbury division two, and South Canterbury division three.

Southland placed 3rd in division one and two, and 2nd in division three.

The masters is for players aged 35-plus but there were players in their 60s and 70s. The day ended with a dinner, dance, and presentations at the Kelvin Hotel.

“It was very successful event, enjoyed by all players and plenty of spectators, Badminton Southland general manager Peter Nielsen-Vold said.
