Emma Gilmour has a long way to go to catch up to Mosgiel driver Chris Hey.

Gilmour made a successful return to the Ashley Forest Rallysprint in the event north of Christchurch at the weekend.

She won the 4WD class for the second consecutive year.

The Dunedin driver roared up and down the 1.7km forestry road and got through to the top-eight shootout.

"It was encouraging to always be right up there with the bigger-engined cars in the unlimited 4WD class," she said.

Gilmour last competed four months ago and used the rallysprint as a shakedown before she contests the Bay of Plenty Rally in three weeks.

While Gilmour clocked her second win, Mosgiel driver Hey nabbed his 16th consecutive title in the two-wheel-drive category in 1min 4.48sec.

He has been trying to break the 1min barrier but the track was not as quick as in previous years.

He again teamed up with his son, 20-year-old Koby, while daughter Jorga has also been in the co-driver’s seat in the past.

Hayden Paddon collected a sixth title in the main event. He put down a winning time of 52.62sec, just 0.6sec shy of the outright record.

Blenheim’s Neil Webb finished second and Dunedin’s Mike Wellington finished third overall.
