Man charged with murder over death in Andersons Bay

A man has been charged with murder after the death of a person at a Dunedin property yesterday afternoon.

Detective Inspector Shona Low said emergency services were called to the property on Somerville St, Andersons Bay, at 5.50pm.

‘‘Upon arrival a person was located deceased,’’ she said.

One person was arrested there and taken into custody.

In a statement this morning police said a 37-year-old man had been charged with murder and was due to appear in the Dunedin District Court on Monday.

Det Insp Low said a scene examination would be completed at the property today.

"Cordons remain in place and we ask the public to please avoid the area.

"Residents can expect to see a visible police presence in the area over the coming days."

Det Insp Low said police were not seeking anybody else in relation to the incident.

A Marne St resident yesterday said they believed someone had died at a nearby property.

‘‘There’s a lot of police including the guys in white head to toe suits are at the house."

The street was usually peaceful, they said.

‘‘I cannot believe [this] would take place here... it’s inconceivable.’’

They said they had not heard anything of note until emergency services came down the street.
