The boss of a failed Canterbury employment service owing $2.8 million is among eight people banned by the Companies Office from managing or being a director of a company for four to 10 years.

Sole director Cassandra Knox was prohibited for eight years and six months for her involvement in the failed companies of Trinity Employment Services Ltd and Elite Employment Ltd.

Both companies were removed from the Companies Office.

Trinity Employment Services operated as an employment agency with offices in Timaru and Rolleston until placed into liquidation following an application by Inland Revenue in the High Court at Christchurch in May 2024.

The business, owned 95% by her and 5% by Jake Slumskie, was found by the Official Assignee to owe $2.8m to creditors.

In the final report the liquidator raised potential Companies Act offences to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s integrity and enforcement unit.

Under the Companies Act, the Registrar can ban people from being a company director or manager for up to 10 years if they were involved in companies failing because of mismanagement.

The Companies Office said in a statement prohibitions removed higher-risk individuals from the commercial arena to protect the public and deter poor management.

‘‘We also record each banned director on our database of disqualified directors. Their details are removed automatically from the database when their prohibition ends.’’

Other directors to receive prohibitions were.—
