The Alexandra office of worldwide property consultancy company DTZ seems likely to remain open because of the specialised nature of its work.
The company's New Zealand acting managing director, Alan Roskruge, declined to comment yesterday when asked if the Alexandra office was affected by any restructuring of the company's operations in New Zealand.
Decisions were made "off-shore", he said.
DTZ Otago branch manager Stephen Cairns said on Monday the Dunedin office would be closing on April 17, with seven staff being made redundant.
The majority of the staff would rebuild and relaunch the business under a different name, he said.
Mr Roskruge said the Alexandra office carried out different services to those done by the Dunedin office.
"Alexandra carries out specialised work on high country pastoral properties, for our client."
The name of the client was confidential, he said.
The Alexandra DTZ office employs five staff. The DTZ website said the company had 12,500 people operating from 150 offices in 40 countries around the world.
It listed eight offices in New Zealand - Alexandra, Timaru, Christchurch, Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, Whangarei and Wellington.
