Seven appointees

Canterbury's water management has reached a significant milestone with the appointment of community representatives to the regional committee of the Canterbury Water Management Strategy.

The committee was a major achievement in building a community-driven approach to water management, Environment Canterbury commissioner David Caygill said.

He announced the appointment of seven community representatives to the regional committee which, along with 10 zone committees (including two in the Waitaki catchment), represents a new approach to water management in the Canterbury region.

The regional committee will be chaired by Dr Andy Pearce, of Christchurch.

The other six community representatives are Hugh Logan (Lansdowne, near Christchurch), Jay Graybill (Geraldine), Hamish Cuthbert (Christchurch), Eugenie Sage (Lyttelton Harbour), John Donkers (Geraldine), Hugh Canard (Christchurch) and Terry Heiler (West Melton).

The appointments are for a three-year term.
