Cromwell Junior and Senior Football Clubs’ request to the Cromwell Community Board (CCB) for a joint lease of the Alpha St Pavilion will be passed on to council after the board voted in favour of the request in a meeting recently.

The recommended agreement would see both clubs lease the pavilion for five years at a rate of $290 per year plus GST.

The agreement would also allow two rights of renewal for another 5 years, with a final expiry date in June 2040.

Cromwell Senior Football Club president Shane Norton spoke in support of the lease at the meeting’s public forum on behalf of Junior Football Club president Simon Peake.

The junior club had doubled in size over the past five years, and both the junior and senior teams had collaborated well over the past six to 12 months to the benefits of both clubs, he said.

The shared lease agreement with the council over the Alpha St Pavilion would be a positive move, as it would allow the clubs to perform some much-needed repairs on the building, such as lighting and hot water.

"We see a lease agreement as a critical requirement for the maintenance to occur."

At the full council meeting on July 30, CCB’s recommendation that the lease of Neplusultra Recreation Reserve’s bike park Cromwell Bike Park Incorporated was ratified by council.

The Cromwell Bike Park had been leasing the land on the reserve since 2013, with the previous lease up for renewal.

The new lease would cost Cromwell Bike Park $1 per year over 15 years and would allow the option to renew for another 15 years, meaning the final expiry date would be in July 2053.
