Body retrieved from Clutha River

Police and Clyde Coastguard volunteers retrieved the body of a man from the Clutha River between the Clyde bridge and the dam yesterday afternoon.

Sergeant Dave Greaves, of Alexandra, said there were no suspicious circumstances in the death of the Central Otago man, in his late 30s.

The death has been referred to the coroner.

A member of the public alerted police when a vehicle was found in circumstances that gave cause for concern, Sgt Greaves said.
