Dog returns after crash

A Cromwell  roofer has been reunited with his canine companion three days after she went missing after a single-vehicle crash.

Brenton Cook managed to coax 6-year-old white Maltese-Lhasa Apso-cross Georgie out of hiding yesterday morning.

Georgie had been missing since early Monday morning.

She ran away in the Fruitlands area between Alexandra and Roxburgh after Mr Cook crashed his vehicle into a bank and it rolled.

Knocked unconscious in the crash, Mr Cook immediately began searching for his dog when he came to.

He was later joined by local farmers in search efforts in the following days but despite numerous sightings, no-one could catch her.

Mr Cook’s mother, Jackie Greenall, said Georgie would answer only to her owner, who was able to find her after she was seen on Gorge Creek Farm about 500m from the crash site.

"She was spotted but the guy couldn’t catch her, so he rang BJ [Brenton]."

The reunion came after what had been a game of hide-and-seek for days, she said.

"A lot of people had spotted her and had tried to catch her but she just kept going to ground."
