Fire crew rescues stuck child

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fenz) fire crew had to free a child from playground equipment at an Alexandra kindergarten yesterday.

The child's elbow became caught between a post and a wall at Kidsfirst's Terrace Kindergarten in Alexandra, a Kidsfirst spokeswoman confirmed.

A Fenz spokesman said the child had been stuck for about five minutes before the fire crew arrived about 10.05am.

The child was freed about 20 minutes later.

Kidsfirst chief executive Sherryll Wilson said the child was uninjured, but the organisation would review the incident using its usual systems and processes.

''The health and safety of tamariki remains our top priority,'' Ms Wilson said.
