Teen's neck slashed in Mosgiel 'coffee mug attack'

A Mosgiel teenager allegedly hit with a coffee mug was left bleeding heavily from a serious cut to his neck and rushed to hospital, police say. 

The teenager was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Acting Senior Sergeant Iain Notman, of Dunedin, said police were called to a residential address in Bush Rd, Mosgiel, about 4.30pm on Monday.

There were reports that two 18-year-old men having an altercation. 

One had allegedly struck the other with a coffee mug.

There was a “significant laceration” to the victim’s neck, and he was “bleeding heavily”, Acting Snr Sgt Notman said.

Police provided medical treatment and the victim was transported to Dunedin Hospital by ambulance. 

The offending man was arrested and charged with wounding with intent to injure, Acting Snr Sgt Notman said. 

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said they sent one ambulance to the scene. 

One patient was treated at the scene before being transported them to Dunedin Hospital in a serious condition.
