Inclusion in 10-year plan sought for skate park

A proposed skate park for Roxburgh is gliding along to the next stages, applying to be included in the Central Otago District Council's 10-year plan.

Teviot Prospects made a submission to the 2018-28 10-year plan that was discussed at yesterday's Teviot Valley Community Board meeting.

A report with the group's submission said the town's youth had been wishing for a skate park for ``many years''.

The Roxburgh Youth Forum, which included local teenagers, had developed the park idea.

The report said the community board had approved the land for the skate park - along Till St, directly behind the main Roxburgh playground.

The committee's next step was to raise enough to fund the professional plans and design and it was working with a company to finish design and cost plans.

Speaking after the meeting, community board chairman Raymond Gunn said the board was supportive of the skate park and ``happy to help'' Teviot Prospects, but nothing had been confirmed.

``We haven't committed ourselves to anything at this stage.''

He said if the board were to fund the skate park, it would not affect rates and could be funded through the board's reserves.
