Alexandra assistant scout leader Ashlee Ryan said when the organisation had to move the hall 20 years ago due to flooding, it ran out of funds to finish the work on the ceiling.
The group had been fundraising for more than 20 years until a parent helped organise the materials and labour needed to finish the work.
"So within a term, 10 weeks, got the materials we needed, got the labour we needed."
The scouts themselves had raised more than $15,000.
Community groups and businesses provided materials and labour for free as well, she said.
Volunteers had worked on the renovations for two weeks, working on the hall during the evening after business hours.
The new insulation and heating would make the hall more comfortable for scouts as well as the various community groups who used the hall, she said.
"During the winter if it’s cold outside it’s colder in here and during the summer if it’s hot outside it’s hotter," she said.
The Alexandra group is made up of 40 scouts spread throughout the keas, cubs and scouts programmes, as well as 20 leaders who use the hall three times a week.
Taekwondo and tai chi is also practised in the hall regularly and the building is also used for children’s birthday parties.
The recent renovations had encouraged the scout hall committee to continue fundraising, with the next project planning to work on the kitchen and places to store equipment.
"It’s just given us that push to do better for our hall so that the community have more of a place to use."
The plan was for the next project to keep chipping away at a list and to tickitems off one by one until it was finished, she said.
