Brian Fitzgerald was on Monday sworn in as a new member of the Vincent Community Board, having won a by-election to fill the position left empty by the resignation of the board's youngest member, Melanie Bell (29), in May.
Mr Fitzgerald (66), who has taken up the vacancy in the Alexandra ward, was elected over his only rival, Sheree Williams, of Clyde.
He has a history in business management and investment, most recently as manager of Central Otago WasteBusters.
