Proud to become representatives for their community are new Central Otago justices of the peace (from left) Dave Evans (Wanaka), Tony Lepper (Clyde) and Janice Remnant (Naseby) when they appeared with Judge Dominic Flatley at the Alexandra District Court yesterday.

The trio all had different reasons why they wanted to be a JP.

Mr Evans said he was a retired policeman and wanted to join because he wanted to serve his community more. ``I've served my community a lot, and Central Otago is under pressure because of growth.''

Mr Lepper, who was Central Otago's mayor from 2010 to 2016, had to be a JP as mayor but enjoyed it so much he wanted to do it again.

Ms Remnant, who works in the Central Otago District Council office in Ranfurly, wants to be available at the council offices in Maniototo to help people needing a JP.
