The new Nichols Garden Centre in Cromwell takes shape.
Cromwell's  industrial sector is continuing to expand, despite retail and residential property development slowing in the town.

Cromwell Community Board member Gordon Stewart said there had been a large amount of industrial development in Cromwell during the past year, and the rate of construction was expected to continue.

"It is just as strong as ever, although residential development under $400,000 is slowing down," he said.

Mr Stewart, who works at Cromwell First National Real Estate Ltd, said some of the larger industrial developments included a multi-storey office block complex on the corner of McNulty Rd and Barry Ave, as well as the Traders Lane retail, commercial, and industrial complex fronting McNulty Rd.

Construction of Nichols Garden Centre at Cromwell is also under way, and the complex is expected to open between February and March next year.

Framework for the building is being constructed on site, at the corner of State Highways 6 and 8B, near the entrance to Cromwell.

Vehicle access will be from Iles St.

The 7500sq m centre will include a cafe, florist, and landscape centre and will offer trees, shrubs, perennials, water features, lifestyle products, and other garden-associated goods for sale.

Nichols Garden Group Ltd general manager Rhys Gibbs said the centre will be the company's third, with others in Dunedin and Invercargill.
