Domino’s Alexandra manager Tyler Clarke said demand had surged since the start of a customer appreciation week promotion on August 11, where the price of a large pizza was as low as $2.
"We've been having to close early around 7 or 8 pm every day because we've been running out of dough."
Alexandra is one of five branches owned by Anton Cuthbert across Central Otago that are running the customer appreciation promotion.
On Wednesday night the five branches sold 2500 pizzas.
The high demand is expected to continue for the week, with it only getting busier as the weekend peak approaches.
Even during lunchtime on Thursday, the demand was high with the wait time being over 20 minutes, half a screen was filled with orders, he said.
The wait for a pizza on Wednesday evening was over an hour, with the shop posting to social media to warn about long waits for pizza.
Another social media post the same day announced that over 2500 pizzas were sold and the shop was completely sold out by 6.30pm.
Mr Clarke said the demand each day began to pick up significantly in the late afternoon, with the shop being "slammed" from 4.30pm onwards.
"I think everyone in this town has ordered pizza at least three times this week," he joked.
Employee Jade Quill said the huge demand for pizza had been "crazy".
Extra staff had to be called in on usually quiet days to meet the demand.
"Tonight ... there would usually be only Tyler and I, and then we would have one other person, but tonight we've got like three, maybe four extras."
A usual weekend has five staff members rostered, but this week, seven people will be working.
