Road sections to be closed for work

Sections of Centennial Ave, Alexandra, will be closed next week as Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency undertakes test pit investigations ahead of a resurfacing programme.

The exploratory work in Alexandra’s main street, part of State Highway 8, was needed ahead of design and construction in the 2022-23 summer season, Waka Kotahi maintenance contract manager for Central Otago Peter Standring said.

"The data from these test pits will be used by our engineers to help us decide the best approach and solution.

"Road resurfacing is proposed from the Clutha St roundabout to Tarbert St — around a kilometre," he said.

The work was expected to take at least two weeks in the coming spring-summer season.

Test pit work was scheduled to start on Monday and expected to take a week.

To complete the testing safely, Centennial Ave would be closed and there would be a detour for vehicles around each test site. One block of Centennial Ave would be affected and have a detour in place each day, Mr Standring said.
