It was the first heavy frost of the season, followed by an otherwise clear and sunny day.
A MetService spokesperson said the temperature at Millers Flat yesterday reached -3°C, at 7am.
It was also as low as -3°C in Alexandra - the lowest there for the year so far.
Temperatures in inland Otago this morning were not expected to be as cold as yesterday, but another frost was still likely.
Roxburgh also recorded a temperature of 0°C at 2am yesterday, the spokesperson said.
