Athletics Alexandra Club is celebrating the efforts and achievements of its young athletes following a successful trip to the 2026 Colgate Games at Saxton Stadium in Nelson. The Colgate Games was held from January 16-18 for the 48th year. It brought together about 1000 athletes between 7 and 14 years old from all around New Zealand, and a group from Queensland.

Athletics Alexandra was represented by seven athletes in the 10–14 age groups and all finished in the top 10 of their events. Individual highlights included standout performances from Annabelle Breen in the girls 12 grade, as she won gold in the 100m in 13.30sec and the 80m hurdles in 14.33sec. She also placed third in the long jump with a distance of 4.27m and added a fourth medal when she finished third in
the 200m in 28.03sec.

Kiri Morgan (girls 14), competing in her final Colgate Games for Athletics Alexandra, achieved two personal bests and secured two silver medals — clearing 1.50m in the high jump and throwing 29.65m in the discus.

The Games success reflected the strong community spirit behind Athletics Alexandra. The club relied heavily on volunteers, including president Norman Marsh and coach Alan Hamilton, both of whom continue to give their time and expertise despite not having children currently competing.

The club also acknowledged the support of Aotearoa Gaming Trust, whose grant helped to make the trip possible. With rising travel and accommodation costs, particularly for events outside Central Otago, the funding made a meaningful difference for families and ensured athletes could attend and compete with confidence. — Allied Media
