A Roxburgh couple are on a roll after striking it lucky with Lotto for the second time this year.

Penny and Neville Jennings spun the Winning Wheel on Saturday night's live Lotto draw and won $250,000.

Earlier this year, Mrs Jennings received a lottery grant to put towards the Roxburgh School's 150th Jubilee.

On a Lotto profile of the couple, shown before they spun the wheel on Saturday night, the couple said they had lived and worked in Roxburgh for about 10 years.

Mr Jennings works for Hirepool and Mrs Jennings works for the Roxburgh Medical Services Trust.

Mrs Jennings said she was shocked to learn they had won the chance to spin the wheel after her sister texted to say the winning ticket was bought in Roxburgh.

''I went on to my iPad and I just kept looking at the numbers, and I said: 'Neville, I think it's us'.''

As part of the Winning Wheel prize package, the couple enjoyed a weekend of luxury at the Sofitel Hotel on Auckland's Viaduct Harbour, and were treated to a shopping spree with a stylist and star treatment on the Lotto draw.

Mrs Jennings said winning $250,000 meant her husband could retire a little earlier than planned.

''It couldn't have come at a better time - when you are contemplating retirement,'' she said.

With more time up their sleeves, they were looking forward to enjoying more golf and cycling around Roxburgh.
