Otago builders have been recognised at a national level for a set of "luxurious" builds this year.

The Master Builders house of the year national awards were held on Saturday, which celebrated specific builds completed this year.

Wānaka-based Buildcraft took away awards for national supreme house of the year under $1 million and national new home $500,000-$750,000.

The three-bedroom 168sqm house was built in the shape of an H with a combination of vertical cedar weatherboards and corrugated iron.

Roger Gilchrist Building Services was recognised for its work on a 783sqm Oamaru house renovation, which won the national supreme renovation of the year.

It also picked up the national supreme renovation over $1.5 million and the national kitchen excellence award.

The judges were impressed by how it had turned a 1800s homestead into a "luxurious, modern family home".

"The building team should be enormously proud of their achievements," the judges’ comments said.

Arcbuild in Cromwell won a national award for best new home between $750,000-$1 million, David Reid Homes Queenstown won the national show home award and the Christie Brothers Building in Wānaka won an award for a multi-unit build.
