Bike challenge, walk-run

One of North Otago's historic properties will be opened to mountain bikers, runners and walkers on May 14.

The occasion is the fourth Kuriheka Estate mountain bike challenge and fun run-walk over the property just inland from Maheno, an annual fundraiser sponsored by Whitestone Cheese for the Scott's Own Sea Scouts.

It has become a popular event on the trail circuit, and ends in views from 450m high for those who take on the full 20km challenge.

While there had been a lot of inquiries about the event, one of the event's organisers, Jason Batchelor, suspected people were waiting to see what the weather would be like before registering.

They can also register on the day from 9am.

There are three trails on the day - the full 20km bike challenge; a 12km downhill bike trail with transport available to the top of the hill; and a walk-run which follows the same trail as the 20km challenge.
