Board works on issues

Two meetings have been held by the Waitaki Boys' High School board of trustees and another is planned for tonight as it moves through the process of dealing with comments and complaints about the school.

Board chairman Garry McLeod said yesterday the first two meetings, on Monday night and last night, were brief ones with the New Zealand School Trustees' Association to get assistance on how to handle those issues.

''We are unpaid trustees who are not experienced in this area and we need that [association's] expertise,'' he said.

Another meeting would be held tonight, at which the board would consider the issues as it knew them.

The public would be excluded from the meetings because the board was discussing individuals.

The board had received a general outline of the issues raised by 17 people, either verbally or in writing, to the Ministry of Education.

Mr McLeod had been expecting copies of any written comments from the ministry but was not sure whether they would be coming.

The board had also received directly, from a past parent and another person, copies of letters which they had sent to the ministry.
