Campaign targeting intersections

A campaign targeting driver inattention at intersections near some of North Otago's largest workplaces is being well received.

Crash statistics have been analysed for each site and a campaign designed to educate staff within those industries.

A campaign at the Alliance Group's Pukeuri freezing works has finished and the focus will shift to Whitestone Ltd, probably starting next week, followed by Summit Woolspinners, Waitaki community safety co-ordinator Alison Banks said there had been good feed-back from staff at the freezing works.

It was hoped a walking and cycling track could be extended from Oamaru to Pukeuri, so employees could cycle or run to walk off the main road.

Building such a track would also provide the community with a safe walking track, Mrs Banks said.
