The crash happened just after 9.30am at the corner of Cross and Severn Sts.
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said one ambulance attended the crash, but there were no injuries and ‘‘staff were not required to treat or assess anyone’’.
Two fire trucks and police were also called to the scene.
Oamaru Sergeant Tony Woodbridge said early indications were that the driver of the ute ran a red light.
The road was closed for ‘‘about half an hour’’ after the crash and he wanted to thank road users in the area for their patience.
