North Otago couple Warrick and Diane McCone are bound for Beijing.

On Friday, Mrs McCone won a competition on television programme Breakfast which included two return air tickets from Auckland to Beijing, accommodation, tickets to two Olympic Games events, meals and transport, plus sightseeing trips to the Great Wall and the Forbidden City, all courtesy of Visa.

Coincidentally, when Mrs McCone woke on Friday, she told her husband she was going to win the competition.

She also had told one of the residents at Iona Home, where she works as activities co-ordinator, to look for her name because it was going to be in the paper.

"I think I was just being positive," she laughed.

The couple, who are in their early 50s, were thrilled with the news, with Mrs McCone describing it as a "dream come true".

Residents at Iona Home were equally as excited and she had plenty of congratulatory wishes and hugs.

"Everybody's just been that excited for us. The residents are going to follow the Olympics doubly now because they know we're there. They are just so thrilled," she said.
