Options for a cycle trail route between Palmerston and Dunback, with a possible route over the hills to Middlemarch, were outlined to the Waihemo Community Board in Palmerston this week.
Waitaki District Council rural parks officer Jane Matchett told the meeting routes between Dunback and Middlemarch would need support from landowners, and their response at two recent meetings in Dunback had ranged from enthusiastic to cautious.
Two landowners did not support the trail going through their land.
An approach could be made to the Government for funding for a feasibility study in the October funding round, she said.
Possible routes included the Paddys Rock and Moonlight trails, which run from Palmerston to Middlemarch.
Another possibility was a riverside trail along the Shag River, between Palmerston and Dunback, Mrs Matchett said.
