Driver of ute sought

Police are seeking the male driver of a ute clocked at a speed of more than 120kmh north of Oamaru yesterday.

Sergeant Tony Woodbridge, of Oamaru, said police gave chase when a southbound patrol car spotted the northbound white Holden Commodore ute travelling at high speed on State Highway 1 through Hilderthorpe, just north of Oamaru, early in the evening.

It is alleged the ute was travelling at 124kmh, well over the 100kmh speed limit.

The man refused to pull over when instructed and the subsequent high-speed pursuit was abandoned a few minutes later near the Waitaki Bridge due to the dangerous manner of the man’s driving, Sgt Woodbridge said.

 - A 38-year-old Dunedin woman will appear in the Oamaru District Court on Wednesday on charges of drink-driving, wilful damage and driving while disqualified after an alleged incident south of Oamaru on Thursday.

Police were called to a State Highway 1 address at Alma about 8pm, after a report an intoxicated woman had smashed a window at the property.

It was discovered the woman was a disqualified driver, and a breath-alcohol test returned a result of 906mcg. The woman’s vehicle was impounded.
