Garden ornaments stolen, smashed

    Two heads are better than one, unless one is smashed and the other is at the police station.

    A pair of garden ornaments mimicking Easter Island moai went missing from an Oamaru garden on Monday night, Sergeant Tony Woodbridge, of Oamaru, said.

    Two youths were seen with the statues at the skatepark where they destroyed one of the heads.

    Police were looking at CCTV to identify those responsible.

    The remaining head was being held at the Oamaru Police station until the owner was identified.

    Sgt Woodbridge encouraged anyone who saw anything suspicious to call police.
